Wayne Penniman, P.T., A.T.C., CSCS, is in his second season with the Revolution and in his first in his current position as the team's rehabilitation specialist. In addition to being a certified athletic trainer, Penniman is also a registered physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning specialist and uses that broad-based knowledge to assist Revs players rehabilitate from injuries and surgical procedures. Penniman collaborates with the Revs' medical and athletic training staffs to develop and implement programs that allow Revolution players to return to full fitness as soon as possible. He also works with the medical staff to develop the team's off-season workout plans.
In his first season with the team in 2007, Penniman's work was honored when he was selected to be the athletic trainer for the 2007 MLS All-Star Team, which defeated Celtic FC last July in Colorado.
Penniman came to the Revs from the Bancroft School in Worcester, Mass., where he was the head athletic trainer since 2006, and the Clinton Irish Blizzard of the Eastern Football League, where he has had two stints as the head athletic trainer. Prior to his work at the Bancroft School, Penniman was the Director of Athletic Training Services at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Mass., a staff physical therapist at South County Physical Therapy, and a senior physical therapist at Spaulding Neighborhood Rehabilitation Center in Wellesley, Mass.
In 2007, Penniman completed the requirements for his master's degree in post-professional physical therapy at Oakland University, where he was the head trainer for the men's soccer and baseball teams during the 2002-03 academic year.
Penniman, a native of Maynard, Mass., now lives in the suburbs west of Boston with his wife, Leigh. The couple welcomed their first children - twin boys - during the offseason.
