Jason R. Mathews, MS, ATC, PES
Jason R. Mathews is entering his second season as the head athletic trainer for the Crew. He spent the 2002-2005 seasons as the head athletic trainer for the Chicago Fire. He won the 2003 MLS Athletic Trainer of the Year award. He earned his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from the California University of Pennsylvania in 2006 and his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1999. He also holds an advanced certification as a performance enhancement specialist (PES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Jason is a founding member and President of the Professional Soccer Athletic Trainers’ Society (PSATS). Prior to MLS, Jason was the head athletic trainer for the Junior A Chicago Steel of the USHL. He has been the athletic trainer of choice for several US Soccer team camps.
A native of Maryland, Jason is a veteran of the US Army and has run the Chicago Marathon twice. He enjoys sports activities, reading true crime and history stories. Jason and his wife Trang have two children, Ethan and Emily.
